Matanuska Thunderfuck

Hey, if you like pot, be sure to check out the newest Pink Eyed Jim Worldwide site: Blunt Notes. It’s a completely unique and real look at pot law, culture, and politics by Mauricio Enigma, who has some very personal experience in all three.

More bud wallpapers from yours truly. This time it’s Matanuska Thunderfuck, in my opinion the most colorfully named strain.

  1. Rodden Says:

That is not Matanuska ThunderFuck. You will never see MTF and very few Alaskans have ever see this strand of Marijuana. It was said to have been lost during the late 1980’s when indoor growers were being targeted by law enforcement. I have heard dozens of people talking about Matanuska Thunder Fuck or Alaskan Thunder Fuck and none of these people have ever been to the state of Alaska. Most of the marijuana being grown in Alaska are strands from Canada that have been given new names. There is a lot of good weed in Alaska but none of it is Matanuska but you can call it whatever you want as long as it makes you feel better.

  2. The Scholar Says:

MTF was originally a wild, naturally occuring plant in the Matanuska valley. As far as I know, no one has a real version of this left. There are some decendants, which are called Matanuska Tundra, but it’s not the pure wild strain. The wild version required at least one heavy frost to reach its maximum potential.

  3. Guru Says:

Hey man, do the research, I smoked some MTF from Doc Greenthumb in Canada, fuckin off the chain, even if it’s not the real shit, it’s some fine ass shit

  4. Growinmyown Says:

Hey Guru, bought many a seed from Doc G. Was always amazed at the things i grew with his beans.
I actually even won a photo contest Nov.2005. (Gren1) Got free seeds of kashmiri. Awesome weed. was sad to see the forum gone but noticed he added alot of new different strains. Thats what got me to here…. Matanuska Thunderfuck. just wonderin if you grew the stuff yourself or got straight from Doc? Don’t care if it’s the real thing, but if it’s good shit I’ll buy it

  5. Bust14u21 Says:

WTF are you assholes talking about? MTF is in clinics all throughout California, and the beans are availabe through Doc. Greenthumb Seeds for just over $250.00. Do your fuckin research next time cuz i dont recal any heavy frosts in southern Cali ever hapening and i imagine that it would be impossible to replicate in a growroom! FUCK HATERS!

  6. Bust14u21 Says:

And dont even bother saying that its not the real strain, because it is fraudulent to claim a bougus strain by law! Plus the seeds are purely bread from wild plants that show outstanding growth and resistance. Plus theres and added level of legitimacy because The Doc. is the only seed bank carrying the strain!

  7. zrwhat Says:

    LMFAO!

you guys need to sit back and smoke another bowl ;)

    xoxo

  8. pinkeyedjim Says:

There actually is a good chance that the original strain called Matanuska Thunderfuck is now extinct. Same thing goes for purple haze…

That being said, I just call it what I’m told it is. It smoked wonderfully and got me ripped. If the original strain is in fact extinct, that’s sad.

But this was some good bud.

  9. Nasty Nate Says:

Everyone from alaska knows that MTF has been gone for half a decade or more, i havent personally seen the stuff since 2000-2001, everyone in Matanuska got raided after 9/11 and MTF was no more, its pretty sad……and thats not MTF in the picture….

  10. stoned 24/7 Says:

hey yo listen i got this shit all the time. it is the real deal. try its the 9th generation and it is still kicking m lungs ass. aMTF is the real deal bitch ass rookie smokers.

  11. Pink Eyed Jim’s Blog » Blog Archive » What’s in a (Strain) Name? Says:

[...] There’s a decent little discussion going on over at my Matanuska Thunderfuck post about whether or not the strain still even exists. It’s been generating a lot of impassioned responses from people who are insulted by the insinuation that their Matanuska Thunderfuck isn’t actually MTF. This has caused me to realize that very few people know much about strains and strain names. I’d be willing to bet a lot of people don’t even know how it’s possible that there are different strains of marijuana. So I’d like to clear a few things up. [...]

you just reuind my high asshole

  13. countvoncount Says:

Gotta agree w? pinkeye on this one! Last time I saw any was in the late 90’s from a green thumb outta Petersburg. All the busts, influence of seed banks and their wide varieties of genetics and the bastardization and the breeding out of pure stains certain characteristics i.e..; low yields, late flowering, frost resistance and other annoyances to commercial and cost conscious growers. There are only so many connoisseurs out there who kept a few of this strain on the side for personal amusement. We’re only a few “accidents” away from losing some great classic bud forever.

  14. l_luv2 Says:

i grew this back in 91 or 92 for a few harvests i was out in wasilla in 3 basements kickin’ back with some good bud and alot of time on my hands…….really happy days anyway been out of the scene for quite some time but i havent come by thunderfuck since!!!!!!!!!it would be a real shame if this strain is truly gone forever!!!!!!

  15. Beatnutz Says:

I smoked some when I was living in the Boston area during the mid 90s and it was incredible smoke. I also smoked some of Doc Greenthumbs strain a few months back. Similar stuff but I’d give the stuff from the mid 90s a 6 out of 5 on the potency chart…off the chart. Greenthumb rates his own 4 1/2 out of 5 and and thats about right.

  16. Beatnutz Says:

…also the buds in the mid 90’s looked nothing like those pictures. The color was a real light pale green with a slight purplish tint to it and was covered..and I mean covered in crystals. The buds were also very dense rock hard nugz.

  17. WA born, AK grown Says:

Ya’ll need to do some damn research before you start running your mouths. MTF is still a live strain in the Matanuska valley and surrounding “hills”. I can personally vouch for this. i have seen it, smoked it, and know the man that has had this strain for over two decades. it is bomb ass weed. definitely the best i’ve heard of, hands down. beatnutz is right. it is pale green with many purple spots and a shitload of crystals. it is NOT dry and crumbly. thick and dense, solid nuggets. and as for this raid after 9/11 bullshit, do ya’ll honestly think that every single MTF plant could have possibly been confiscated? Bitch Please! whoever says that it is gone is a fucking idiot. ya’ll just need to sit back and keep puffin on that bammer shit that ya’ll get, and leave the real tokin’ to those of us who know.

  18. pinkeyedjim Says:

    WA Born…

I did do research. Had you read my “What’s in a Strain Name?” you might realize that. As for the color difference, purplish tint tends to happen to pot grown in colder climates (hence the Alaskan stuff being more purplish). Honestly if the real strain still is around, nothing could make me happier. But the simple fact is that we can’t know much about the actual strain itself as any grower or dealer can call their shit WHATEVER THEY WANT, your guy included. Who’s going to prove them wrong?

  19. steven lovelace Says:

The year was 1993, I was a student at divers institute of tech. living in ballord wa. I met a girl that was a student at wa. st. u. She had acces to a lab on campos that was supposedly groing erb experimentally for medicinal use. She said the pot was called mtf. I got my hands on the girl and the pot, Both of witch I will never forget.

  20. sour deez nuts Says:

you can obtain matanuska tundra in amsterdam. I know Grey Area has it. However, some refer to blueberry x matanuska = blue thunderfuck and it is one of the FINEST varieties i’ve ever tasted. bluish/purple hues & loaded down with trichomes. i prefer to call it “matabluska”, but whatever works for you. I don’t know the difference between thunderfuck & tundra, besides the name, if there’s a difference at all. Tundra’s an excellent variety. It’s also a great plant for hybrids & use indoors.

  21. G-apollo-13 Says:

i think y’all are gettin way to heated for bein stoners. relax, sit back and smoke that bowl let dealers call it whatever the fuck they want as long it gets the job done.

  22. IV-XX Says:

I have smoked a type of matanuska, and it matches the description that keeps coming up: a peculiar light green that caught my attention, heavy, large trichomes all the way to the leaf-tips, a mango-like aroma, and barely any taste at all. It was not dry in the least, but extraordinarily sticky and dense. Another peculiarity was that it was total creeper - I didn’t get high for 10 or 15 minutes. The grower called it thunderfuck, and I have NEVER smoked anything quite like it. I do not believe for an instant however, that the original mtf was a wild strain. It may have been back-crossed with a native frost-resistant variety many times, but any grower who is familiar with truly wild strains knows that this type of bud just does not emerge without human intervention. What we call mtf was probably developed and cultivated over the course of decades.

  23. IV-XX Says:

And it is not unrealistic at all that the strain could have been lost. Since Matanuska (according to the old-schoolers who actually grew it) requires frost to reach full potential, it may have been an unpopular choice for indoor growers and those in southern regions, limiting its spread. Secondly, if the strain is native to Alaska, it probably does not react to the same light cycle as other plants, and this would further limit its popularity for growers who raise multiple strains. Strains from equatorial regions, for instance, do not pay any attention at all to a light cycle, but can bloom any time they feel they are ready to reproduce. Some strains rely on other environmental triggers such as drought. Strains come and go, and some have a different rate of genetic drift, meaning that some seed-bred strains may be significantly different from their descendants only a dozen generations past. Anyway, we will never know it the original mtf is still around. Is someone hands u a blunt and says it’s mtf, don’t worry about what’s what - just smoke and enjoy. Peace.

  24. Alaska Says:

None of these people know what they are talking about. I don’t smoke weed, but my grandpa was the one who created the Matanuska Thinder Fuck strain in the late 1970’s. The strain is artificial, nothing could survive our winters, and stay green for the entire year, let alone grow wild throughout our fields. The strain was grown using hydro, and crossbred for over ten years to create the monster strain. The actual strain died with him a few years ago when he was shot to death. There is some closure for you guys.

  25. denver nug Says:

It still exists. big blockheaded nugs with callyxes ten times the size of a normal callyx, white hairs all over the place, and more crystals than you have ever seen, like beatnutz said, pale green with a somewhat purple/bluish tint that shows up well in photographs. not a particularly huge yielder, but rock hard nuggs and thc oozing from every inch of her. (does especially well in cold weather). Thunderfuck is to Mother Nature as F-13 is to DJ short. puff tough everyone!

  26. hmmm Says:

Alaska, your story intrigues me, but I would like to hear more as I would like to disbelieve what you’ve written. If the real thunderfuck is infact extinct, then there is something much closer to it and much headier than the matanuska tundra that is circulating in many US states. Would you be willing to tell us more about your Grandpa and how/why he was shot? I hope that in all of his more than ten years of crossbreeding he took one snippet at cloning and passing along his hard work to ensure MTF’s survival. common sense dictates this. please tell me your grandpa was not a strain hoarder and someone still has this, and if the legacy died with one man way back in the 1970’s, what is there still so much hubbub about the matter. do you think it is possible he may have had one or two hermaphedites over the years that made it to the market where seeds could be regenerated? whatever this shit is, if your grandpa did cross it, i am sending him good vibes and much thanks from the rocky mountains.

  27. anna Says:

    haha
i hope other people are finding this as intriguing as i am…
    good high reading material :D

  28. free Says:

You all are pretty funny. I am from alaska and have seen dozens of morons trying to pawn off dozens of strains as MTF. Only the original growers could possibly know what to look for. Just enjoy your weed. If it is good enough to ask the question “could this be MTF?” then you are high enough that it does not matter.

  29. AK907 Says:

I live in Alaska and everyone I have ever know has said that the strain is lost. Ever since a company named Wolf country USA was busted the strain was lost. This is why I am wondering if Dr. Greenthumbs is BS.
