Estelle Getty, whose acting career bloomed late in life with her Emmy-winning performance as Sophia Petrillo, the wise-cracking mother of Bea Arthur on the popular NBC sitcom “The Golden Girls,” died Tuesday. She was 84.

She will be sorely missed. And Lifetime Network is airing a Golden Girls Marathon dedicated to Estelle from 12 PM – 5 PM on this Friday, July 25.

    So sad. I used to watch this show all the time. She was the funniest one. Her witty smart remarks really gave the show an edge.
