Sprig.com has recently published an article outlining the 10 Most Dangerous Foods that we eat. Some don’t surprise me at all, while some have some claims that are even news to me. I’m going to give you the general list as well as my reaction to each, but I do suggest that you go and read the whole article, too.
- The 10 Most Dangerous Foods
- Farm Raised Salmon
- Bell Peppers
- Strawberries
- Chilean Sea Bass a.k.a. Patagonian Tooth Fish
- Peaches
- GMO Corn
- Bluefin Tuna
- Chicken
- Apples
- Cattle treated with rBGH
No big surprise here. It’s been known for quite some time that the feed given farm raised salmon which contain dyes which could potentially be toxic. Yay! Eat wild Salmon.
These had the most pesticide residue out of common fruits and vegetables studied. This can be helped, but not reduced completely by washing your produce. Or buy organic.
They claim that some growers actually irrigate their strawberry fields with water containing NutraSweet. Yipes! That’s one that I will talk more about in the future.
Again no big surprise, it’s a predatory fish from tropical waters. Mercury is an issue with any fish and it is amplified as you rise on the food chain, because mercury is cumulative from prey to predator. So if a Sea Bass eats three smaller fish with mercury in them, the bass then has as much mercury in it as those three smaller fish did. Multiply this by the number of fish that a sea bass may actually eat during its life span, and you begin to see the problem.
Pesticides. Clean them well, peel them or buy organic.
May be a problem. Not sure if I’m sold on this one yet.
Large predatory fish. Mercury again. Eat sparingly.
Chickens are filthy. They’re raised in horrible conditions commercially. I laugh at every person who tells me that pork is unclean and then eats chicken.
Pesticides, how do you like them apples?
Hey, I love staring at high school girls’ large chests as much as the next guy. But it wasn’t always so widespread. The large chests at such a young age, that is. Once of the possible causes of early puberty and luscious 16 year old boobies: rBGH. Buy organic milk and free range beef if you want to avoid this. But why?
I am so being tongue-in-cheek about the 16 year old girls. Or am I?
